Cycles of Venus: The Goddess of Sex, Love & Rebirth

The ability to distinguish the oriental/morning star appearance of Venus from her occidental/evening star appearance gives another layer of interpretive ability and greatly adds to the depth and richness of a reading. We will also learn to identify the invisible phases of Venus and explore them through the metaphor of Ishtar’s mythological descent to the Underworld. We will see how the entire process of Venus’ visual cycle is intricately related to her mythology. We can work in a discussion of the 2012 Venus transit here as well.

Rahu & Ketu: Transformation via the Cosmic Dragon

This talk is about using Eclipses for personal empowerment. We'll take a look at the mythology of Eclipses and the astronomy of the Eclipse as a Shadow phenomenon and a disruption of the dark/light fractal of Time. We also cover the basic mechanics of the Lunar Nodes and bendings, and identify Nodal themes in the chart. We will learn how the Dragon’s Head is bringing in new energy for growth, and how the Dragon’s Tail is releasing old energy which is no longer useful.

Rahu & Ketu: Transformation via the Cosmic Dragon
A two-hour workshop intensive

Gary will also offer a two-hour workshop the following weekend, on March 25, 26 or 27, for a suggested love offering of $20-$40.

In this two-hour workshop, we'll recap the mythology and astronomy of Eclipses. There will also be a brief recap of the Eclipse as a Shadow phenomenon and disruption of the dark/light fractal of Time. Then, using participants' charts, we'll learn how to apply the basic mechanics of the Lunar Nodes and Bendings and identify Nodal themes. We'll also discuss practical tools for personal empowerment over the next 18 months via the Dragon’s Head, who is bringing in new energy for growth, and the Dragon’s tail, who is releasing old energy which is no longer useful.

Goddess Astrology Re-Visioned: Transformation via the Sacred Feminine

A look at Innana/Ishtar/Venus and Demeter/Ceres as pre-olympian feminine indicators of Transformation and Re-birth. Also a delineation of the asteroids Vesta, Pallas and Juno as indicative of three steps in this process of transformation. This profoundly archetypal process is mirrored in the triple way of mysticism, the three classic phases of alchemy, the way of the shaman, and even in the phases of birth labor! I'll be focusing on delineating Pallas in the charts of the Monterey and Woodstock festivals - both the events themselves and many of the artists involved!

"Saturn opposite Uranus: Clash of the Titans"
Lecture by Gary Caton

Tues., July 28, 2009

Free admission; love offering welcome.

The primary astrological event for the past and next year will be the opposition of the two Titans: Saturn and Uranus. Gary will provide images as he shares the rich mythology of this generational struggle, which is a parable for a paradigm shift of the World Order. You will hear an historical account of the last two occurrences of these 45-year alignments, which haven’t happened since the 1960’s.

For your personal reflection, Gary will also share a more psychological perspective (like the one he published in The Mountain Astrologer last summer). He will also take a few volunteer charts to illustrate the modulation of our boundaries required by the opposition of these planets.

"Synodic Cycles"
Lecture by Gary Caton

Free admission; love offering welcome.

Tue., June 24, 2008: Lecture by Gary Caton

Changing Horses in Mid-Life: Re-Visioning our Dramaturgy

In the June/July issue of The Mountain Astrologer, I outline four primary Heroic Archetypes and their analogues in the 4 Astrological Elements: Fire/Warrior, Air/Wanderer, Water/Martyr, Earth/Magician. We can use these Archetypes to facilitate clients changing life-scripts via the three-step process of transformation symbolized by Vesta, Pallas and Juno.

Often clients come to us in pain or confusion because they are living a dead script. The heavy emotions clients initially present are symbolic of the compressive focusing energy of Vesta. When they are able to experience a new archetype/script, there is a creative release (Pallas). This leads to new connections (Juno) with new characters!

We will explore this process in the chart and life of Bob Dylan – who managed to integrate all four heroic paths. If time permits, we can also explore this process in the charts of audience volunteers.

WORKSHOP. This is a tremendously valuable tool for the counseling astrologer, so for those who want to explore this process in-depth, I will offer a follow-up four-hour workshop on this topic for only $50! (Cash only, please.) This workshop, to be held Sun., June 29, 2008 from 2-6 pm in the Earth Fare Westgate Community Room, will be limited to eight participants, as we will go through each participant's chart/life path. Gary Caton Press Release

Gary Caton spoke on "The Heliocentric Chart as the Higher Self" .at the October 2007 meeting of the Asheville Friends of Astrology on Tuesday, Oct. 23 from 7 to 9 p.m.

"The geocentric chart  and the distortions of the geocentric perspective," Gary writes, "are indicative of the personality or ego (anagram of geo) and its struggles on the material plane. The Heliocentric perspective is the undistorted view of the Self -- the spiritual impulse which came here to evolve and grow. We will look at the charts of Vincent Van Gogh as well as audience volunteers."

Gary was one of the speakers on the Mundane track at UAC (United Astrology Congress) 2008. In addition to practicing mundane astrology, Gary holds a degree in Counseling and has developed a system of astrology that looks at psychological, sociological, and evolutionary perspectives on a developmental continuum. Gary publishes frequently in various astrological journals. He lives in Asheville, NC with his wife Caroline. His website is DreamAstrologer.com and he keeps an astrology blog on MySpace.
